Colorado Castles ~ Glen Eyrie ~ The Castle Tour

The Grandeur, Elegance, and Décor were all in keeping with what one might expect of a castle.

No expense was spared in the making.

The lady of the castle made many attempts before she found an ivy that would grow in Colorado.

Even the ceilings were ornate.

Fancy sitting rooms.

Statues and Fireplaces.

This picture has the feel of a street in somewhere in Europe.

Castles of Colorado ~ Glen Eyrie ~ The Castle Grounds

Fall of 2010 we had the opportunity of going to a marriage conference at Glen Eyrie.

Before that, I had no idea that Colorado had it's own collection of castles.

I was enthralled with the idea of exploring a castle.

Glen Eyrie's grounds are located in an extension of  the Garden of the Gods rock formations in Colorado Springs.

Visitors are allowed to sign in, wander the grounds, tour the castle, and hike the rocks, even if they don't stay in the rooms.  They simply need to sign in at the gate.

The Builder, even included a moat to further authenticate his castle.

A view of Pikes Peak.

More rock formations.

Helen Hunt Falls~Silver Cascade Falls~Colorado Springs

Among the various waterfalls I've visited, Helen Hunt Waterfalls is one of the more versatile, I've been too.

Not only does it have a base access that sits virtually right off the road,

but it also includes some serious hiking up to the Silver Cascade Falls above it.

Even the best of our crew stopped for a rest or two.

What an astounding view awaited when we reached the top.

Even our younger participants were impressed.

Once again a wonderful day spent in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  Full of fond memories.

Idehoe Springs Train Engine No 60

As you've probably noticed, my girls kind of like trains.

Something we like to do from time to time on our drives up and down the mountains

is stop off at Idehoe Springs and visit the train

Its a fun one to climb on, and definitely kid friendly.
