Adventures in Cusco Peru ~ Cristo Blanco ~ Blanco Jesus Statue

Cristo Blanco

Standing tall overlooking the city of Cusco is the Cristo Blanco statue.

Like the many other statues of it's kind,

This statue draws people from far and near to come and gaze upon it.

This was our first stop on our city bus tour.

Wild Animal Sanctuary January Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My!

Wild Animal Sancturary

The Wild Animal Sanctuary was started

in order to provide a place for animals to go and live out their lives in peace.

Sometimes zoo's have extra animals that spend all their lives locked in tiny cages.

Other times private citizens get wild animals when they are small and can no longer care for them when they get big.

At the Wild Animal Sanctuary an animal first starts out in a small cage, is attached to a family group,

and then released into a large open area to live out it's life in comfort

with dignity.  These animals are unable to be released into the wild, because they were never taught to survive on their own.

The sanctuary has constructed walkways above the animal living areas to avoid animal disturbance.

Once a person rises above the predator prey zone, the animal no longer notices it's existence.

Allowing the person free observation without disrupting it's daily routines.

The concept strikes on genius.

What a way to coexist with the creatures we love

observe them up close

without disrupting them in a negative manner.

Adventures in Peru ~ Centro de Textiles Tradicionales de Cusco

Centro de Textiles Tradicionales Del Cusco

The art of weaving is a fascinating study.

We were able to observe it on several occasions

during our trip to Peru.

The different professionals I spoke with indicated, that Quechuas who learn this trade,

begin their quest at age 20.

These large pieces weaving takes them a whole year to complete. What dedication!

Brunswick Zone Bowling

Brunswick Zone Bowling

Nothing spells fun like knocking down a stack of bowling pins.

Every kid loves to throw things

and knock things down.

What better place to do so

than the bowling ally.

Great Fun.

Great times.

and Great Family Entertainment

Chase your blues away

with a great game of bowling.

Adventures in Peru ~ El Centro Comercial LaMolina ~ Cusco

Generally my blog stays within the scope of all things Colorado.  Recently we made a language trip to Peru, so that two of our girls could practice some of the Spanish they've been learning in school.  So on that note, you'll find several post in the up coming days from various adventures in Peru scattered with our normal post from Colorado.

La Molina

Shopping in Latin America

holds a flavor

all it's own.

Truly an adventure.

The place is a maze.  You could wander around for hours and still not see everything.

One last shot of dusk falling over the city of Cusco.

Gold Runner Coaster ~ Breckenridge Mine Cart Style Rollercoaster

If you've ever watched a movie, with a runaway mine cart scene,

and wondered what it might be like to ride in one yourself ...

my imagination tells me,

it might be similar to riding one of these.

Minus the seat belts of course ;)

When it comes to safety though.

I think I'll opt for seatbelts.

The gold runner was a pretty fun coaster.

Different from any other one I've ridden. Great times!
